Sedan High School Welcomes New Principal

Chautauqua County USD 286 is proud to welcome Mr. Matt Stapp as our new Jr/Sr High School Principal for the 2025-26 school year!
Mr. Stapp is coming into his 19th year in public education. Born and raised in Emporia, Kansas, he brings experience and a passion for supporting rural Kansas schools and communities. Mr. Stapp is dedicated to kids and the community he serves. He believes that all educators should make decisions based on doing what is best for kids.
He has a wide range of experience that began as a Social Studies teacher for 11 years at the middle/high school level in Southeast Kansas. Mr. Stapp moved into administration as a building principal and activities director for a K-8 building in Northeast Kansas for 5 years. He continued his administrative career as a high school assistant principal and activities director for the next 3 years.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from Kansas State University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Pittsburg State University. His academic and professional experiences have given him a wide range of influence in how to be an effective leader. He knows that schools are a community that is built on the relationships developed between staff, students, community, and parents. It takes a village to educate our children.
